Bodum Assam Cast Iron Teapot - 0.5 Liter

Photo of Bodum Assam Cast Iron Tea PotThe BODUM Assam Iron Teapot is an unusual and notwithstanding effective decoration for a tea table. It combines the old Japanese tradition of enjoying tea and BODUM's well-proven tea press. The Assam shape is reminiscent of the traditional English tea pots, whereas the cast iron material and its texture create the relaxing feeling of participating in a Japanese tea ceremony, a "purifying bath of the six senses". Cast iron was used not only to convey the Asian style, but because of its brilliant qualities to preserve heat and therefore the consistent quality of the tea within.

To create the distinctive Assam bowl shape of the tea pot, two iron cast parts are fused together. The knob pattern (Arare) decorating the pot should always contain the same amount of knobs in the first and last row. The inside is lined with a smooth, durable vitreous coating of enamel to prevent the iron from deterioration. If treated correctly, the cast iron tea pot will last more than a lifetime.

Available in two sizes: 0.5 liter and 1.0 liter.

INSTRUCTIONS FOR USE

Tea is a cultural drink, for which there have been rituals throughout time. As with all old habits, there is no one method of making tea to which all agree as being the right one. Below, however, you find the most important steps for success.

  • Always use clean utensils. Brown coating in a teapot is not supporting good taste.
  • Use cold, fresh water. Cold water contains a lot of oxygen which gives the tea its full flavour.
  • Do not overfill the strainer - tea leaves need room to swell in order to reach their full potential and flavour.
  • Place the loose tea in the teapot strainer one teaspoon (2g) per cup or to your liking.
  • Slowly pour water onto the tea the moment it starts to boil.
  • Place the lid on top, let it flow on top of the water to keep the water hot.
  • Brew the tea to your personal strength (or according to different types of tea).
  • Press the plunger down to stop the brewing process immediately.
  • Pour the tea and enjoy a tea suiting your personal taste.

Tips on How to Make the Perfect Tea

  • Do not heat the cast iron teapot on stoves - heat the water separately and pour it into the cast iron teapot. If used on a stove top, it takes very long until the water reaches the temperature needed to get the perfect tea.
  • For real good tea use clean, fresh water just off the boil. li>For green tea you have to leave the water to cool for a while before pouring it over the tea (approx. 70°).
  • Pour the water slowly onto the tea - mixing tea and water this way will support the tea to reach its full potential.
  • Brewing green tea or fruit tea requires a longer brewing time than black tea.

CLEANING INSTRUCTIONS

After you finish your tea, rinse the teapot and plunger/lid thoroughly with warm water and a soft cloth. Make sure you remove all residues / brown coatings on the inside of the teapot and on the plunger / lid using e.g. dish soap. The enamel coating over the cast iron prevents rusting and it eliminates the need to season the metal, and allows for better cleaning. No hard surfaces (like a dishwasher prong) should be allowed to contact the enamel during the washing process.

Note: Wiping dry the parts made of iron cast is very important, otherwise it will rust.
