|Comments:||This piece is absolutely breathtaking. Solid wood and high quality parts. You could smell the remnants of the stain/varnish, which indicates to me that it was just made before it shipped to us. Made in the USA certainly means a great deal! The customer service from Beverage Factory was a 10 out of 10. I will definitely order from them in the future.|

A generation or two ago, parents kept their high school aged children out of the "liquor cabinet." Over the last couple years, we were puzzled every time we went to a furniture store and asked if they carried liquor cabinets, because we'd only got blank stares from the salespeople. It was if "liquor cabinet" were an alien concept from another planet.
We're not party animals or anything, but over the years we gradually accumulated a fair number of liquors and wines. For lack of a better place, our liquor ended up more or less on display in the dining room. Without meaning to, we had turned liquor into the focal point of our dining room.
So what we needed was a discrete and secure place to tuck the liquor bottles away. Eventually searching the Web for the term "wine console" led us to the Howard Miller line of Hide-A-Bar cabinets. We found one store locally that had the Shiraz model in stock, but it not suit the decor in our house. After some debate, we decided to buy the Bar Devino model online.
When it finally arrived, my heart sank at first to see "Made in China" on the box. But once uncrated, the unit was solid and nicely fitted and finished. There was no easy way to manipulate the floor levelers, but eventually we got the unit positioned and level and plumb.
Overall, the unit is very attractive. It is not obvious that alcohol storage is its purpose. The only hint is the seam running down the center of the top. Depsite its long journey, it arrived in excellent condition with no noticeable dents or dings.
The stainless steel ice bucket holds at least 2 quarts so that's about right. The granite work surface is essentially a tile nested in a recess intended to receive it, and is thus flush with the inner top. There is a hole drilled beneath it so that the tile can be popped up from below, if and when it needs to be cleaned.
The interior is finished to match the exterior, and has some nice features. On the right-hand center door is affixed a towel bar to hold a bar towel. On the left-hand center door, there is a mounted bottle opener with a removable black steel bucket below it to receive bottle caps. Neither of the center doors lock. The lower center drawers do in fact hold 28 bottles of wine; there is a smaller piggyback drawer inside each of the larger drawers.
The outer cabinets, which do lock, are tall enough to hold two tiers of liquor bottles comfortably. We were able to fit a couple dozen bottles in with no sweat. The unit looks no different full than when empty.
So if you desire an elegant but understated console cabinet, that discretely hides your alcohol and yet makes serving it up easy, then this is a fantastic choice. We're actually proud to have it as a centerpiece of the formal living room.
