This FastFerment Conical Fermenter is a one-stage fermenter that allows homebrewers and winemakers to use the same unit for both primary and secondary fermentation, saving approximately 80% of the time and labor required to make a batch of beer or wine in a carboy or bucket. The FastFerment system also uses less equipment than traditional fermentation in carboys and buckets, making cleanup much easier!

The FastFerment system is more sanitary than conventional bucket fermentation, and results in cleaner and purer homebrew beer and wine. Unlike primary fermentation in a bucket or a carboy, which allows your product to have 100% direct contact with the dead yeast and sediment at the bottom, the FastFerment features a 1" ball valve mechanism that reduces contact with sediment by 99%. When fermentation is complete, the ball valve can be closed, and the collection ball containing the sediment can be removed. Your product can then be filtered or bottled directly from the FastFerment using the provided hose.

7.9 Gallon Conical Fermenter Reviews

Good value, some assembly required.

Comments:It's not a perfect apparatus out of the box, but the design is solid and with a few hours of work I was able to make all the modifications I needed. Very easy and clean compared to using the ol' bucket system.

Giving 4 stars because it's got a great price for what you can make out of it. There's no need to buy the sampling port use any bucket port, and a stand can be made from scrap wood. I also made carrying straps from rope.
Bottom Line:I would recommend this product.

Time Saver!

Comments:This makes the brewing process so much easier I want to brew more and more styles. As others have mentioned, it's great not having to rack to secondary (both sanitation and oxidation benefits), easy to clean, and you can re-use the yeast.
Bottom Line:I would recommend this product.

Great Fermentation Vessel

Comments:I've owned this for about a year. It works great. Overall I do like it a lot and won't be going back to carboys. The only way I would change this setup is if I went to a full on jacketed conical, but that's $$$$.

Pros
-Easy transfer to kegs or bottles
-Easy removal of yeast eliminating secondary transfers
-Easy cleanup with removable lid
-Thermowell for monitoring or controlling temperature
-Virtually eliminates chance of oxidation

Cons
-Only has the bottom port for transfer. You'll end up with yeast that's stuck to the sides coming out while you transfer. I'm getting the extra sampling valve to remedy this. I can mount it above the yeast level
-Had to file plastic mold flashing at top of conical to make lid seal. I read this was corrected on newer ones though.

I've also got it temp controlled with a ferm wrap heating pad. It's more designed for a standard round carboy, but it works fine wrapped around the lower part of the conical.
Bottom Line:I would recommend this product.

Excellent product

Comments:I have owned one of these for almost a year and have produced some very successful brews using it.

Benefits include:
Being able to dump trub early in the fermentation process, this has helped clear my brews up without using fining additives. If you keg, and have access to CO2 it is reassuring to fill the ball with CO2 before changing collection balls to reduce O2 exposure. That said the amount of O2 bubbled up through the brew is fairly negligble when changing collection balls.
Yeast collection and reuse is a very simple process using the collection ball.
Racking off the FastFerment is a simple process once I built a stand to elevate the FF above the height of a keg. You can use the wall mounts to achieve this, but I wanted some flexibility in where I ferment depending on temperature.
Cleanup is very easy, the lid is a good size for getting into the FF to scrub and the "flushability" of the unit once the valve is removed means I can use a hose or pressure washer to clean out the FF very easily.
I experienced some leaks on a couple of brews as it is easy to miss the fact that the valve O ring is easy to misplace if you are inexperienced, but once you get in the habit of checking the O ring is in place this solves the problem. Likewise it can be easy to assemble the valve upside down if you are not paying attention - I have now marked my valve with the correct assembly direction to avoid this problem. FF actually recommend leaving the valve in place for cleaning, but I tend to clean like a demon.
Dry hopping is very easy, but I do recommend hop bags, I had clogging issues with leaf hops when I first dry hopped a batch.
One clever piece of design is the wrench built into the union valve handle, this saves me losing the tool, I'm good at misplacing tools!

Overall, this is a well thought out piece of kit, with useful accessories - the thermowell is great to see as a standard feature. I recommend!

Bottom Line:I would recommend this product.
