Allavino YHWR174-1SWRN Wine Refrigerator Features

Powerful and Efficient Cooling

A state-of-the-art compressor provides powerful cooling while being efficient enough to meet the strict California Department of Energy consumption guidelines. Internal fans circulate cool air throughout the cabinet to create faster cooldown and eliminate hot spots, ensuring that each bottle in your collection is aging in the intended temperature range.

Digital Controls

The digital display and push button controls are easily accessible and intuitive. You can precisely control the interior temperature of the cabinet in one degree increments by pressing the up and down arrows. The LED display shows the set temperature during adjustments, then displays the current temperature, allowing you to monitor how the unit is performing. You can also turn the lights on and off, change the display from Fahrenheit to Celsius and turn off the power to the appliance with the push of a button.

Beautiful Styling

A finished black cabinet allows the unit to look great in freestanding applications, while the front-venting design allows you to build the appliance into cabinetry so that only the stainless steel framed glass door and toe kick are visible. The cool blue lighting and refined wooden shelves add to an aesthetic that is pleasing to the eye.

Glide-Out Wooden Shelves

15 sturdy wooden shelves gently cradle your bottles and reduce harmful vibration that could upset the sediment of your wine during long term storage. Telescoping roller assemblies extend all but the bottom shelf so that you can easily view and access the rear bottles, so you don't have to remove the front bottles to determine what is behind them.

  • Up to 174 bottle capacity*
This bottle count is an estimate based on 3" diameter standard wine bottle. If you have larger bottle diameters, you may hold less bottles per rack or you can remove racks to accommodate the larger bottle sizes.
  • Black Cabinet and Stainless Steel Framed Glass Door with hinge on right. Door is not field reversible.
  • Stainless Steel Curved and Towel Bar Handles
  • LED Temperature Display
  • Push button controls
  • Can be set between 40 and 65 degrees Fahrenheit
  • Maximum Ambient Temperature: 90 degrees Fahrenheit
  • Minimum Ambient Temperature: The lowest temperature you want to store your wine at. The unit does not have a heater, so if the ambient temperature is lower than the set temperature, the internal temperature will match the external temperature.
  • Temperature can be displayed in Fahrenheit or Celsius
  • Fan-forced cooling for even temperature distribution
  • Cool Blue interior lighting
  • Beautiful hardwood shelves
  • Beveled shelf slats securely cradle wine bottles to reduce vibration
  • Telescoping roller glides extend shelves far enough to access rear bottles
  • Security Lock
  • Dual Paned Glass Door with UV Protection
  • Built-in or Freestanding use

Wine Bottle Dimensions

We realize that there is no "standard" bottle size anymore. Here is a small sample of bottle size variations and how they can affect your overall bottle capacity. Each of these bottles have varying widths and heights.

  • Bottle A is the ideal bottle size. The bottles are just short enough that the neck of the back bottles fit between the shoulders of the front bottles without touching and the 2-15/16" diameter allows plenty of room between bottles. This allows you to fit 20 bottles on the top rack and 11 bottles on the other 14 racks with a total capacity of 174 bottles.
  • Bottle B is taller than the average bottle at both the top and the shoulder. If only using this size bottle, the top of the rear bottles on the rack would hit the shoulder of the front bottles on the rack and push them too far to either side to have bottles all the way across the front of the rack. We were able to fit 8 bottles on a shelf, with one bottle in front and another bottle in the back, then skipping a groove before adding another bottle in the front. That would reduce the overall capacity to 134 bottles, if your entire collection were this size but you can have bottle B in the back with bottle A in the front of each rack and still achieve the maximum capacity of 174 bottles.
  • Bottle C also works well. It is 2-3/4" wide at the base, but 3 1/4" wide at the shoulder. The grooves are spaced enough that the shoulder will touch the bottle next to it, but the height still allows you to fit the normal amount of bottles on a shelf for the full 174 bottle capacity.
  • Bottle D is wider, with a diameter of 3-1/2". They still fit on most of the shelves without having to remove a rack, but they require that a groove be skipped between the bottles which reduced the bottles per shelf to 8 on the upper shelves and 5 on the bottom shelf. That would reduce the overall capacity to 117 bottles if your entire collection were this size.

We understand that every collection is different, and we hope that providing this information will help you determine how your collection will work with this product.

Works OK, noisier than expected
ATLOenophile

This Allavino YHWR174-1SWRN seemed like the best cooler value for our collection of 120 wines (almost all reds). It's a good looking unit that mostly fills our expectations.

Ordering was easy. Shipping was "challenging" -- paid extra for "white glove" -- after 10 days delay, the first guy shows up and wanted to drop it off in the driveway -- NO -- another 10 days pass -- second guy shows up and carted it in with no problem. It was in good condition and set-up went well.

CAPACITY: Claimed 174 bottles is not possible if you have a lot of Cabs. Maybe Pinots and Cabs mixed. The taller shoulders on Cab bottles make it impossible to place them alternating in the racks. We weren't able to organize our collection as we'd like to and ended up putting bottles wherever they would fit.

NOISE: Runs noisier than expected -- about 35 dB, vs. 30 dB for our refrigerator. FWIW, that's 50% louder.

COOLING: Cools as expected. However, the built-in thermometer registers 2-to-4 degrees warmer than a calibrated thermometer that I placed inside (mid-level). Adjust temperatures accordingly.

OTHER: The blue led lights are useless. You have to press a button to turn them on, and they don't offer enough light to actually see the bottles. The lights also turn off automatically after about 3 minutes -- there's no way to adjust this time, so you can't turn them on for a "mood".

I'd recommend with reservations.

Very good unit and selection
JIm

I needed to replace a much larger unit that I chose to leave behind at my last place. I have almost 200 bottles and this unit holds 174 of them. I really like the shelf units as they pull out far enough to see the rear storage. The unit came fully assembled and was handled very well. It came VERY fast as well. Thanks Bev Factory

Great Cooler for the Price
Mike H

Really a great Wine Cooler. Runs loud when you first plug it but once it gets going it runs really quiet. Unit looks great and built solid. The shelves pull out farther than a lot of the coolers on the market and the wood shelves look great.

We have had it for about 1 month (purchased in April 2018) and we love it. We would definitely buy it again and highly recommend it - especially in that price range.

This wine fridge is awesome!
Jeff

I got this fridge last year and I wish I had gotten it sooner. The telescoping shelves are a must! It's much quieter than the other ones I have bought in the past. Fat bottles are a a little bit of a pain, but I blame the wine manufacturers for that. You can put them on the bottom and top shelves anyway.

Good but not great
Bruce

I bought this based on the high quality racks that were advertised. This is indeed the case. The racking system works well for a variety of different bottle sizes. The wood trays work well and the ball bearing slides work well. Shelves are placed at several different increments, so that some larger 750mL bottles only fit in certain spots, but that is fine. 2 complaints: 1) it is noisier then I expected. It is louder then an ordinary refrigerator. 2) The temperature seems to fluctuate a bit. I set it to 60, but it often reads 58 or 59. Did not measure temp, but does not seem right.

Question:
A client of ours has two of these units. They want us to build a cabinet to surround both units side by side for a built-in look. Do you recommend a rough opening size we should use?
by Brook on September 09, 2020
Answer:
Hello Brook, these units are able to be completely built in and the doors open flush to the unit when at 90 degrees, so you can leave minimal room on all sides, I'd say maybe a 1/4"-1/2" in between and on each side.

This unit as a single measures 76.5" H x 23.75" W x 27" D, if you're doing side by sides you can just double the width with a little extra, so roughly 48"-48 1/2" wide would accommodate them. Please give us a call if you have any more questions. 800-10-9939

Question:
Can this unit go in a 5’ x 6’ closet (with 10’ ceiling) and have sufficient ventilation?
by Mike on December 16, 2019
Answer:
Hello Mike,
As long as the unit can ventilate the heat out of the front kick panel, you should be fine. You may want to leave the door of the closet open when cooling bottles down for the first time.
